I'm a Digital Media Specialist at The University of Melbourne and Science Gallery Melbourne. I have a keen interest in investigating democratic use of technology in public space. I conduct design research to uncover the design parameters that stimulate activation, participation and engagement with technology, particularly media architecture and immersive interactive spaces.
This talk, held by invitation of a national association of public communication, introduced communication experts from federal and local government as well as public institutions to public displays as a novel way of communicating with citizens. Relevant studies that discuss content on public displays, interactivity, urban and architectural integration, and deployment methodology were introduced, in addition to the specific recommendations for deploying public displays, as described in Handbook Screens in Public Space.
