I'm a Design Researcher based in Melbourne, Australia. I apply architectural design principles and approaches to enable ethical innovation. Primary areas of focus are artificial intelligence, facial recognition, and biometrics. My work reaches global audiences and highlights the importance of public participation in the quest to ensure that innovation creates tangible benefits for society. This talk, held by invitation of a national association of public communication, introduced communication experts from federal and local government as well as public institutions to public displays as a novel way of communicating with citizens. Relevant studies that discuss content on public displays, interactivity, urban and architectural integration, and deployment methodology were introduced, in addition to the specific recommendations for deploying public displays, as described in Handbook Screens in Public Space.
